Patient: Male 80 years
Occupation: Retired Executive
Pain: Frequent 6/10

Complaint: Osteoarthritis in both knees. Condition worsens with walking on slopes. Medication causes side affects such as stomach pain. Patient wants to try an alternative to medication.

Treatment: Acupuncture around both knees with electrical stimulation of these points for 30 minutes. Treatment was given 1 time per week for 2 weeks, then 2 further treatments at fortnightly intervals.,

Prognosis: After this treatment the patient was 80% better. The patient understood that this treatment had not cured the arthritis, but it had changed the way the nervous system modulated the pain. This patient returns every month to keep the pain at bay.
