Impingement Syndrome or Painful Arc affects people usually in their middle age.
This condition is often called Frozen Shoulder.
The most common symptoms in impingement syndrome are shoulder pain, weakness and a loss of movement of the affected shoulder.
The shoulder pain is brought on by lifting the arm, and is often worse at night, especially if the patient is lying on the affected shoulder.
The problem occurs where the supraspinatus muscle passes through a bony arch to attach to the upper arm.
This shoulder pain can be caused by various things, such as overuse, injury or bad posture - where the neck and shoulders drop forwards.
Treatment depends on the severity of the condition. Osteopathy can help a Frozen Shoulder , but if the condition is severe an operation may be needed.
