It is important to differentiate genuine hip pain from buttock pain.
When the hip joint is affected, as in Osteoarthritis, the pain is normally felt in the groin and the front of the knee, but it can also be experienced in the buttock. It is straightforward to test for Arthritis of the Hip. Your G.P. can arrange for x-rays to confirm the diagnosis.
Early Osteoarthritic changes in the hip joint may be helped with Osteopathy.
Muscles, such as Pectineus, can be treated, and ease stiffness and pain in the Osteorthritic hip.
When the Hip Joint is not the cause, the vast majority of pain in this area comes from the low back and muscles of the buttock.
Muscles, such as Gluteus Minimus, are often related to hip pain. This muscle is rarely involved in arthritic hip pain, and pain here is more likely to be related to the lower back.
