Where does it hurt ?

Drysdale Osteopathy • Unusual Pains

Drysdale Osteopathy • Unusual PainsI have included this as an example of unusual pain.

Pain can be very perplexing, and it is not always possible to find a cause.

In this example the muscle in the calf, the Soleus, has developed a Trigger Point that refers pain to the face on the same side.

This is unusual, and very difficult to explain by neurology, or acupuncture meridian theory, for that matter.

But the reason is probably because in the brain these two areas, the face and calf, lie side by side in the sensory cortex.

When this specific area in the calf develops pain - messages are sent to the sensory cortex. These signals then flood over from the area supplying the calf into the area supplying the face.

This is also the probable reason why Phantom Limb Pain occurs.
